Stephen McNamara confirms his intent to run for municipal office in Tiny Township in 2026 for the position of Councillor (one of three)
Short Bio: Over 100 years ago the McNamara family moved to Penetanguishene and Tiny Township. Ever since generations of the family have lived and worked in the community. Stephen McNamara moved North from Windsor Ontario and he's never wanted to live anywhere else
Relevant background experience: To the residents of Tiny,
I'm Stephen, and I'm announcing my intention to run for a Councillor position in our upcoming municipal election.
I moved to Tiny permanently in 2001 and took on a leadership role in our family business, Kings Buffet, in both Barrie and Orillia. During that time, we were deeply involved in the community. Kings Buffet proudly sponsored the first Barrie Dragon Boat Festival, and I served as a committee member. I was also an organizer for the Tom Coffin Memorial Golf Tournament and a proud sponsor of The Season Center for Grieving Children. We provided food for the Out of the Cold program in Barrie and sponsored the Orillia Perch Festival. My commitment to community involvement continued at the University of Windsor, where I founded the Kappa Mu Chapter of Sigma Chi International Fraternity, focusing on leadership, mentorship, community, and charity.
These experiences have taught me the importance of community, service, and responsible stewardship. I'm running because I believe Tiny deserves strong, accountable leadership that puts our residents first.
My platform is built on core principles vital to our municipality's future:
Municipal Accountability: It's essential that our local government is transparent and responsible to the people it serves.
Beach Access: Our beautiful Tiny beaches are a treasure, and frankly, they are for Tiny residents first and foremost. We need to find ways to work together to protect our historical and traditional rights to these spaces while also respecting the rights of property owners.
Fiscal Responsibility: This means encouraging economic development, carefully considering asset reduction, and optimizing our budget. We must do this without placing undue hardship on taxpayers, all while maintaining a financially sound government for future generations.
I believe my background and dedication to the community make me a strong candidate for Councillor. I am committed to honesty and working collaboratively for the betterment of Tiny.
