Chuck Stradling confirms his intent to run for municipal office in Tiny Township in 2026 for the position of Mayor
Short Bio: I have decided to put my name forward for election as mayor of the Township of Tiny for the upcoming term. I feel my past career experience, over ten years of observing local council meetings and my community involvement have equipped me to lead our new council in the right direction. This is not a decision I have made lightly as someone that is quite enjoying retirement life. Having been residents of Tiny for the last fifteen years, I have not witnessed the obvious public unrest and distrust of our current council and believe that the temperature needs to be dialed down significantly. I have personally approached council on a number of issues only to be thanked for the delegation and my offered suggestions totally ignored. The response seems to always be, if you want to effect change then get elected. Well, we will see how that goes as I take up their challenge.
Tiny council consists of five individuals, each with one vote. The mayor has no special power when it comes to making decisions and there are no platforms run on. As of this upcoming term, only the mayor sits as Tiny’s representative on County Council where a significant amount of our tax dollars end up.
My personal positions are as follows:
• There needs to be full transparency
• Fiscal responsibility is paramount
• Town Hall meetings should take place on all proposed major undertakings
• Our long-range strategic plan requires public input
• Tax increases should be targeted at no more than the rise in the cost-of-living
• Protection of our environment is a priority
• Improving relations with our neighbouring municipalities
Relevant background experience: The last ten years of my 31-year career with GO Transit, I served as Director of Property Management. In this position I oversaw the day-to-day operations of all stations and support facility operations (maintenance, ticket sales, customer services, advertising, property leasing/acquisition and disposal). My portfolio included over 50 facilities and my staff dealt with over 50,000 customers and 30,000 parked cars daily. I was responsible for annual capital/operating budgets of over $50Million; annual revenues of over $100 Million and over 300 unionized and management staff. As a member of senior management, I also participated in labor negotiations and arbitrated grievance hearings.
In August 1999 I was retained by BOMA Toronto in the role of Executive Vice President and carefully guided the organization in both growth and prosperity for the next ten years. Some highlights of my career with BOMA Toronto included: development and implementation of the annual strategic planning process and governance manual for the Board of Directors; implementation of the association management database, financial systems and web site integration; negotiated and implemented a 3 Year $75 Million Conservation Demand Management Program with the Ontario Power Authority; spearheaded the development and implementation of the BOMA BESt National commercial building environmental management program and certificate of building excellence program.
