Area of residence in Tiny Township: Wyevale

Don Anthony confirms his intent to run for municipal office in Tiny Township in 2026 for the position of Councillor

Short Bio:

Tiny Township has been my home for 23 years. My wife, Michelle, and I have been married for 31 years, and we raised our children here. They attended Wyevale Central Public School and later St. Theresa’s Catholic High School in Midland. Michelle’s family settled in Lafontaine in the 1800s, giving our family deep roots in the community.

I have remained actively involved in our community, including coaching basketball for 10 years, serving for several years on the board of the Penetanguishene–Midland Basketball Association, and currently serving on the Township’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. I hold a degree in Economics and a diploma in Turf Management. I have owned and operated a landscaping and property-management company and worked as a Golf Course Superintendent.

Throughout my career, I specialized in helping struggling golf courses regain financial stability and return to profitability. I am running for Council because I believe Tiny needs stronger fiscal management, renewed respect for taxpayers, and a practical plan focused on residents’ everyday needs. My Plan for Tiny Restore fiscal responsibility and reduce the tax burden.

Over the past four years, municipal taxes have increased by more than 35%, while compounded inflation over the same period was approximately 16%. This significant difference calls for a careful review of Township spending.

I will look for efficiencies, eliminate unnecessary expenses, and work to reduce the tax burden on residents. Prioritize roads, drainage, and essential infrastructure. Many roads remain unpaved or are in serious disrepair. I want the Township to develop a responsible, long-term plan to hard-surface municipal roads and address Tiny’s growing infrastructure deficit.

Develop a comprehensive drainage plan. Residents whose basements flooded this spring were told there was no money in the budget to address drainage concerns. I propose completing a Township-wide hydrological study, followed by a practical and financially responsible plan to correct the problems identified. Reduce the financial impact of the new administration building. I will explore every available option to lessen the long-term tax burden the new administration building has placed on Tiny residents. Re-examine bylaws that go too far. The short-term rental bylaw, the 45-meter setback requirement, and the election sign bylaw are examples of policies that should be reviewed. Municipal bylaws must be reasonable, enforceable, and respectful of residents’ property rights. End unnecessary and expensive litigation. Taxpayers should not be forced into costly and divisive legal disputes. Council must seek practical solutions, use litigation only when absolutely necessary, and remain accountable for how it spends public money. Make Council more transparent and responsive. Residents deserve to be heard, respected, and provided with the facts behind Council’s decisions. I will support a renewed culture of public service in which municipal priorities reflect residents’ needs. We should also draw upon the knowledge and experience of people within our own community to help develop practical solutions. I am concerned about the direction in which Tiny is heading. Too often, residents feel that their voices and everyday concerns have been overlooked. I am confident that my education, business experience, and commitment to this community will allow me to bring responsible leadership and meaningful change to Council.
